If it's objective,
he will write it
If they're subjective,
he will watch them
When there are words to say,
don't hold your breath
The boy's gota trippy tongue.
Yet while there is still day,
he'll have it all said and done

Character.
Character Name: Emmory Justin Finch-Fletchley
Character Journal:
Age/Birthdate: September First/18
House/Year: Hufflepuff, Seventh
Wand: Pine, one unicorn hair
Bloodline: Half-blood. His mum is a pure-blood and his dad is a muggle-born
Why were they sorted into this House? They are many reasons for why Emmory Justin Finch-Fletchley was sorted into Hufflepuff. The first being that there wasn't any other house to put him in. He wasn't ambitious enough for Slytherin; his goals didn't involve surpassing anyone. He wasn't reckless or fearless enough for Gryffindor; far too practical. He wasn't studious enough for Ravenclaw; he liked to read just fine but there were other things to do other than contemplate theories and facts all day. The only house left was Hufflepuff, and if a person were to know Emmory at face-value they would say that even the Badger's house wasn't exactly for him. He was far more detached than even the shiest and quietest Huffle. Although somewhat warm in characteristic, he was no where as friendly as many people associated Huffles to be. Nowhere near as forgiving and the word non-judgemental didn't seem not to be in Emmory's dictionary. The boy was a born skeptic. His sense of fair-play didn't seem that much higher than the normal persons and his loyalty only extended to a very small group, although, there are times it seems to it is only to himself. The only thing that seems to be remotely Hufflepuff-esque in Emmory is extra-ordinary propencity for hard-work.

Hard work. One must wonder how that is extra-ordinary since anyone can work hard. However, one would only need to see the dedication Emmory puts in each and every of his actions to recognize that one hasn't done hard work until one does it the Emmory way. Single-minded is a way of putting it. When he enters a project, he gives his all. Mind, body, and soul. Not just figuratively but quite literally. Emmory can spend weeks on bread and water since it's the quickest meal to get him back to what he has to do. Moreover, he doesn't do his homework or his chores, for some reward or because it will put him ahead everyone else or because it will make him that much more brilliant. He does it because it needs to be done. Not only does it need to be done, when he's done doing what he has to do, Emmory is filled with a sense of completion. It is almost as if he savors doing chores and other work. A feeling that comes from the fact that he has succeeded and that he has given his all to achieve a well-deserved success. In order to be able to accompany a project from start to finish a person must both patience and tenacity. Two traits that are associated with Hufflepuffs and two traits that Emmory has an incredible reserve of.

Another reason the hat placed Emmory into Hufflepuff was because the hat knew that Hufflepuff would be the place where he would discover self-realization. Yes, Hufflepuff. Not Gryffindor where they'd push him sooner than he needed. Not Ravenclaw with all their intellectuals who would annoy the shite out of him while they thought and did nothing. And certainly not Slytherin in which he would become far much more reserved and possibly even invisble in. But in Hufflepuff that would help him loosen up a bit, open up, and realize the ability he has and how it can help people.

Physical Description. Emmory sense of style is on purpose. Although, in all honesty, most everyone's sense of style tends to be on purpose, even when it is by accident. There is a set image they want to give out to others and find themselves gravitating to certain types of clothing. Emmory's articles of clothing (that aren't robes or dress robes) are chosen for three reason. 1) To annoy his mother. 2) Because they divert attention. 3) Because they are surprisingly comfortable (he's an organized stickler at hear) and easy to work in.

Standing at 5'10", with wiry and boardering on skinny build, Emmory is a rather good looking boy. Pale skin, from rarely venturing outdoors. A squarish and determined chin, thin but pink and soft lips, a very straight nose, and dark, heavyish brows. Blue eyes so clear that they could be called cerulean. And hair, that Emmory is thankful, which is nothing like his father's curly light brown. Reddish-brown and straight, it is shaggy and generally is brushed back. Sometimes however, it falls in his face in the rare moments that too carefree to care or, more typically, when his hands are tied up in a task. Despite his very lanky body type, E is rather broad shouldered, nevertheless, the appearance is diminished by the baggy and unshapely sweaters that he usually wears. If he ever takes off those sweaters, underneath he'll by 99.9 % have on a white t-shirt. You know the kind ... with the v-necks and short sleeves, the ones your mother tells you to put under your REAL t-shirt as not to catch a cold? Yeah, those. He wears them like people drink water. Coupled with straight, boot-cut, cowboy jeans and yellow-mustard boots, .... there one has the E fashion in one shot. He dresses for simplicity sake. Even if it seems like a 'bum's' sense of style as his mother likes to say, it is always clean, rarely ever ragged and never has a whole on anywhere.

His necklace, a Wunjo (which is a rune, that looks like a P and stands for peace and balance), is also rather simple. It is silver medallion and on a black cord. The thing that surprises people about E, if they ever get close enough to notice, are his tattoos. Yes, he has them. One is on his right for arm and is a virgin holding water. It stands for his astrological sighn. If you know E, even superficially, that'd be a bit odd because it is obvious he doesn't care about that stuff. He doesn't. Not at all. However, the tattoo has meaning for him and his grandfather, it is one of their jokes. Don't bother asking him, on the rare chance you see it. He's not going to tell. Next to it, from just about shoulder height down his bicep to right above his elbow, are three stars. On the same arm as the Viro sign

Sexual Orientation: Straight
Personality: The thing to know about Emmory, or E as he rather be called, is that he is always doing something. He was up and he makes sure his bed is perfectly fixed, brushes his teeth, goes over his home-work, gets dress and then eats breakfast (maybe), goes to classes and diligently takes notes, leaves classes and perhaps spends times with friends but most certainly goes to do his homework and then .... and then takes out whatever project that has most of his attetion and is adding to the deteriment of his health and his social life. Exciting isn't it? Emmory cannot spend a minute of anyday doing nothing. It is time wasted, time that could be used efficiantly towards something. One could eve go as far as to call him a work junky. He lives of adrenaline and it is only through the fact that he values healthy food and excerise that he hasn't crashed and burned years ago. Even then, Emmory isn't truly relaxing. At least not in the way a normal person does. It is doubtful that Emmory truly relaxes in the way everyone else does; because even when he's at "rest" his mind is buzzing away on his next project. Catching some sort of detail, making an observation, and filing it away. It's through years of coping that Emmory's body has learned to deal with the speeds of his brilliant mind and what it wants to go and do next.

Emmory has projects and, as expected, they involve work and hopefully as little people contact as he can get away with. These projects can range from large to small, inconsequential (to most) or of the utmost import. Things like tutoring or helping a teacher stack some old parchment or ... single handedly helping Madam Pince reorganize the books in the library, sans magic. For the most part these projects have to deal with information processing and use his keen eye for details. Nothing is too tiny for Emmory's attention and dedication, giving the same care to even the most insignificant of facts as he does to a grand project. He is quite the perfectionist. His homework nary has any ink stains and it is one of the reasons that he's such an excellent cook. He values and studies each piece that he considers in using. Quickly analyzing data is his thing. He's very critical, intelligent, and what's more is inventive a factor that he applies to his projects. He has what it takes to be an excellent detective, emotionally reserved, he has what it takes to recognize the cold hard facts (not only of life but of most situations). His mind-if not always himself personally and emotionally-is highly adaptable and his decisive nature gives way to skills that are good for analyzing details and people.

Emmory has questions about everything and with those questions there is a large dash of skeptic cynic behind it. Why not Ravenclaw? One might wonder. Because, honestly, is the pessimistic boy who is far too shrewd for his own bloody good going to believe others theories and hijinks? No. Of course not. He's going to go and find his own answers. Find his own answers by observing the very animals he usually avoids. Yes. Emmory observes and takes notes on people. Most of his projects have to do with humans: their mind, their social behaviors, their habits ... everything about them. It is funny how the people he usually avoids are the "projects" that take up all of his time, to the forgetting of nearly everything else. Nearly, because really. Emmory would never shirk his responsiblities and never break his word. Project stops if he has other things to take up his time, he'll do that, and then go straight back. Why care? The boy's reliable. And the boy cares much more than he'd like to admit.

He simply doesn't have the capabilities to deal with people, the social graces. He was never fond of them of a child and despite his mother's urgings his father never forced him to attend them. Social gatherings as a whole tend to intimidate him. Innately E does have a shy side. He also is rather cold, strongly self-sufficiant both by nature and nurture. He sees people and they both fascinate him and aggravate him. He tends to avoid them because of his stuttering, but he truly can't. People are in his blood. Politics, making the world a better place is in his blood. It may not seem like it all the time. He seems too anal-retentive. Too cold. Too reserved, and at times too indifferent. Except he could never be truly indifferent. The truth is that there is more to Emmory that meets the eyes and he does have the capability to be an excellent politician. All he has to do is take the time to learn the necessary graces, to cultivate both his mind and emotions, together and not as something disjointed. E has a strong sympathetic nature and that tends to be noticed. People appreciate his ability to astutely asses both sides of a situation, his practical and desicisve nature, and how gianourmously fantastic he is at follow-through. Skeptical but respectful. Emmory is ethical. With his projects, in his dealings with people. His sense of 'fair' isn't as black and white as the traditional sense, nevertheless, it is rather idealistic. He gets it from his grandmother. . Always lets one know where one stand with him, even if he doesn't say it. Such things matter to him a lot. He might pretend that things like that don't and that he's all world worn but things such as opinions (not all just certain ones) and true honesty matter. The fact that someone might precieve him as trust-worthy (which he is) and that he likes to know that he is percieved in such a way seems to contradict the boy who doesn't deal with people much . Emmo ry is good with people, because Emmory cares. At the end of the day, he cares. Furthermore, despite his rather cautious nature, there is a bit of a reformer in him.

E's ability to see both sides of a situation, every infinitesimal detail, extends to the fact that he could have the ability to arguee both sides. To defend both sides, since the fact of the matter is that Emmory has an enourmous sense of responsibility, and extend his own rather caustic viewpoint in a manner that is actually boarding on tactful. Certainly in a manner that causes people to think, even if it might insult. However, that abiliy has yet to become a reality and it sits in a boy who has convinced himself that he would rather avoid and be avoided than follow his calling. The reason for this is that stuttering problem of his. Actually the reason of this is that he's too damn prideful, too damn stubborn, and too damn scared to open his mouth and express these observations sitting in him for the fear of 'relaspe' as he calls it. Like every 'junky' there is always high nervous energy, as to be expected of someone who runs on adrenaline more than they run on matter such as food, and that energy doesn't always display itself in a positive matter. It comes out at times as insecurity. When he's insecure, upset, angry, or anxious, Emmory stutters. Rather horribly at that. Something his mother has always tried to change, something Emmory himself refuses to accept as tolerable. Keen observer of mankind that he is, he knows that weaknesses aren't accepted as options (which maybe why he's awfully tolerant of the weaknesses of others [depending on the situation and person] ... for the most part). His mind moves too quickly for his mouth to keep up. It always has, and it always will. Which is the reason why he takes painstaking measures to think before he speaks, it is nearly second nature.

Emmory rarely ever raises his voice. When he actually sees it fit to say something. He speaks lowly and slowly with every word seeming to be thought over before they are uttered. Once uttered, every word and syllable is crisp and clear not allowing anyone the chance to misunderstand a thing he has said. His perception with details and this measuring of every word that leaves his mouth, has caused him to be very rigid with himself. Has caused him to be even more distant than his skeptic nature would have made him to be. Emmory was already a perfectionist-in fact he had been born one if his parents are to be listened to. A health-nut (vegan really), it is obvious that he antagonizes already about what goes in and out of him (even when he's far too busy to stop and eat he always has a granola bar stashed somewhere). This analyzing of his person has led to one of the most anal-retentive people out there. It is not so much as he is wound tight (although he can go on for days as if he's Tigger on crack); however, it is much more as if he is a containor with a piston. Everything is put in and simply suppressed, everything hot is under the piston and the pressure. It is hidded. Everything cool is what everyone sees and knows.

Family: Justin Finch-Fletchley, Father
Justin is quite the affable guy. Loyal, truly friendly to a few and generally polite to all, and always ready with a joke ... not necessarily a good one. Emmory, despite himself, is most like his father, if one had to say that he was like either of his parents. They both have similar interests, both enjoy quiet time and hard work. However, through the misfortune of Justin's work he and Emmory have never properly bonded. They don't have much of a father-son relationship, let alone a true friendship. They are more like friendly aquiantances that share a home during the summer holidays.

Daphne Greengrass - First and foremost it should be said that Daphne loves both of her children. Unconditionally. She would do anything for either of them. As for loving them equally, that one is a bit more difficult to answer honestly. Emmory is a mystery to her. The two of them are too alike in negative manners. As for the positive ones, there is a possiblity that they could be similar but Emmory has never given her the chance to find that out. He's very distant towards her. Not always. As a child, they were inseperable. For the first seven years of Emmory's life, Daphne could not take a breath without Emmory's being directly after hers. She loved it; however, as he grew older things began to change. Daphne would never admit why but Emmory can list thousands of reasons, one of them being that she was too demanding. It would have been fine if it'd been simply Daphne always raising the bar and Emmory striving to meet it. However, it soon became her trying to turn him into something he was not. Emmory took, takes, it as her not being satisfied with what she has and not loving him for him. Daphne, in truth, was simply trying to prepare her son for a world that she thought that he wasn't ready for .... by making him something that he wasn't.

Sister-Not as close as he'd like

Malfoys

Greengrasses - They're far too outgoing and boisterous and old world Slytherin (not so much with the blood purity-although he does get some of that-but more with the style and interests) for Emmory's taste. Too into appearances and grooming, eloquence and the like. Not to mention they try to get him to talk more than he'd like.

Finch-Fletchley's - While Emmory does get along with his father's side of the family, it really isn't saying much. They seem to take the need for pomp and circumstance a level higher than the Greengrasses. Most of them don't know that Emmory is a wizard and that's fine for him since he's always felt more in his skin in the more straight-forward muggle-world. They also don't have that incessant need to actually get him uttering syllables which is perfect for him.

The people he gets along the most though in all of his family is his father's parents. His grandmother, Agatha, is a woman to reckon with. Blunt, merciless, and absolutely classy she isn't the type of person to suffer fools or stupidity just because the other person is wealthy. A very independant type of woman she dotes on Emmory, constanty stating to anyone who will listen (and if the person does contain a brain cell they will listen for fear of their life) that Emmory is one of her favorite grandchildren since he seems to be one of the rare ones with a mediocum of intelligence ... for a male. Emmory never has to be anyone or anything but himself with his grandmother, around her he is comfortable and they can sit for hours passing judgment on the world while drinking tea.

His grandfather is the more physically affectionate of the two. One wouldn't think that Emmory would be able to get along with someone like his grandfather. Open, sarcastic, warm, and a complete practical joker. However, while his grandmother supports him in everything there are certain things Emmory can't even tell her. He can tell them to his grandfather William. Besides William, whose first name is also Emmory, understands the pain of such a birthname.

Personal History:

Justin William Finch-Fletchley and Daphne Adeline Greengrass's marriage was taken as one of large surprise by their friends and aquiatnances. Dapne while not one of the most outgoing of her house and year was known to be a close aquiantance of the Slytherin Prince and Princess. Just was ... well, Justin was a Hufflepuff. In that alone would be reason to wonder, however, Justin not only was a Hufflepuff but a muggle-born who was in the DA. Truly a reason to question if there were dark magics involved ... or perhaps an unwanted pregancy, too far along to be terminated. Sadly, strange enough, or whatever 's' word that would further describe the confoundment such a match left upon their peers, neither was the case. Truth was, Daphne and Justin actually liked each other. Even at Hogwarts.

To make a long story as short as possible, Justin, with all his horrible timing and his inability to see through a joke correctly, made Daphne-reserved ice princess whose manner brought to mind a muggle headcheerleader-laugh. Simple as that. Justin made Daphne laugh. No made Daphne laugh. Not even the Weasley twins (well, not much or often anyway). People made Daphne laugh at them if she could be bothered to pay attention to anything that wasn't her studies, herself, and doing things the Right Way. However, no one ever made Daphne laugh, no one but Justin Finch-Fletchley. It was all by chance, really, that she happened by the Hufflepuff table one breakfast morning (from over sleeping) and caught the end of Justin's very bad joke to Hannah and Ernie which managed to force out an involuntary giggle. The relationship that occurred after that epic moment was a strange one. They weren't friends, per se, but it involved Justin's bad jokes and Daphne being amused enough to let him tell them to her. No one know of this odd friendship outside of Hannah and Ernie who, loyaly 'Puffs that they were, never told a soul. The relationship grew, slowly, and could have blossomed into something more during seventh year if not for the war.

The Greengrasses always were and always had been neutral as a whole, however, it wouldn't do to be seen being sympathetic, although it wouldn't have mattered either way because Justin's family took him into hiding. Refusing to let him return his seventh year-though they did let him return for the battle.

After the Battle Justin returned and finished his last year before pulling out of the wizarding world and going into muggle politics. Yet, never lost contact with Daphne. They continued correspondance and began seeing each other, and came to realize that they could cope with the other in a setting outside of secrets and Hogwarts. Slowly friendship turned into dating and dating turned into love and loved turned into marriage and marriage turned into the birth of their first child ... that Daphne lost. A baby boy and Daphne miscarriaged, the first five months. It was rough time but they made it through, Justin took a "break" from his work and they tried again. Leading to the birth of their second baby boy, Emmory Justin Finch-Fletchley. It was a difficult birth, Emmory was rather underweight but they made it through that too. Em was taken home a few months after his birth and he was doted on by his parents and grandparents.

Always in his mother's arms, from a young age Emmory watched his father work successfully in his chosen field. Justin was never the world's greatest wizard but he was fantastic at his job, he was fantastic with people. In both worlds. Moreover, he knew how much his wife loved the wizarding world and as Justin moved up the ladder he began to recieve more and more jobs that involved contact between worlds. Soon he because the Official Liason for the Muggle Minister, with involvement with the Ministry of Magic. Justin's work was very busy and he was rarely home, nevertheless, that was fine because things were grand at home with Emmory and his mother and his sister. Or at least they were in the beginning.

It was all fine for Daphne when her son never spoke often when he was at home and with her. His stuttering and even slighter lisps were endearing to her friends and peers, especially on a three year old. Besides, people and professionals assured her that he would grow out of it. Out of the lisp he did, the stuttering, he didn't and Daphne began to worry. For herself, and yes a bit for herself. Unless her son ended up being the next Winston Chruchill, there was nowhere he could go with his stuttering; especially with the stigma associated with it. Justin put his foot down against medication and Daphne was leery of therapy; although, when E was nine-and his relationship with his mother had all but deteriorated-he insisted on going to sessions. They worked for the most part, through that and strength of will Emmory has learned to control it. His relationship with his mother didn't. He always felt that he wasn't good enough, that she pushed him to control it faster and harder that even he (and he was a bright child) could keep up with.

When it was time for Hogwarts, recieving his letter like all those who would attend during the summer, Emmory dreaded it. It was fear. Fear controlled everything that day, and nervousness. He was terrified. He was ridiculed enough by some of the children in his primary school. The only reason it never went into full on verbally violent (or physically) teasing was because of who his father was and because Emmory learned at a young age how to pretend as if he wasn't affected by anything. That and because he came to see, just because he stuttered and they didn't did not in any terms mean that they were more clever than he was. In fact, many of the same students who harassed him always liked to work in his study groups and always attempted to copy his homework. Still, like his father, the wizarding world had never been a world he'd been completely comfortable in. So when a few first years had happily bounded up to him in chattering excitement, he'd clammed up. Only through experiance, yes even at his eleven, did Emmory know to turn it to his advantage. Releasing a few curt phrases in return, he raised a cool brow before replacing his attention to his notebook. A notebook that he had since he started therapy, where he put all of his thoughts and the things he wanted to say, and all of his observations on people. After that encounter, E quickly became known as a prat. As cold. As mature. As indifferent. As cool. As anything anyone wanted to call him, depending on the person, that was just another word for distant.

Emmory was quite possibly one of the longest placings of his year, if not the longest, and the hat placed him-finally in everyone's opinion-into Hufflepuff. Can't say that Emmory made friends. He made people who admired him. People who respected him. People who thought he was a dick, a wanker, and so adorably indifferent. But not really any friends. He always kept to himself. For the most part. Speaking out when he had to, when he HAD an observation or a question that could not be held (for example: Could you really be any more intelligant? To the smartarse who insisted on asking ridiculous questions in class because he found it 'funny'). Emmory did become close to a few people as he spent more time in Hogwarts, however, much of his time was spent studying and working on his projects. Emmory did well in ALL of his classes. Defeat a word that he refused to accept, although struggle is one in his vocabulary that he's gotten quite used to. Because although through studying and focus Emmory would master the elements of classes such as Charms, Transfiguration, and DADA when he was confident; yet, when nervous or put on the spot his stuttering and the blocks between have been known to get in the way of his practical preformance, still to this day.

Classes: Charms, Transfig, Arithmancy, Ancient Runes, Herbology, Potions, History of Magic, DADA, Astronomy, Muggle Studies

Plans for character: I know people usually but relationship would be nice, but for Emmory, relationship would be FANTASTIC! He's a practical monk. He's quite labelled himself as asexual and he doesn't even try. At all. I'd also like other relationships, friendships and enemies of the sort. Also situation that put him in the spot and he HAD to speak, like idk, maybe in a challenge. Or see all his heard work go to waste if he didn't. I know evil. But where he had to talk RIGHT THEN or DOOM! I imagine him failing, at least at first.

Traced and retraced: NEUROSIS

Freud. Was far more practical than people gave him credit for. I think he would have been a Hufflepuff too. Or at least a Ravenclaw without his head in the clouds.

He spoke of neurosis as a breathing thing, like it was a being Protect like a lioness would protect their young. Huh. Like air? There is a possiblity.

Definition? Defines. Neurosis. Ticks? What exactly is a neurosis. Can it be seen as something beyond theoretical?

---

I don't know. Grandfather, said to take a look at this psychology shite but it seems mostly Divinations trying to be factual to me. Then again, I've barely even properly cracked into the subject. Although, I do believe instead of chronological order, I will place it on a tree chart. Going down by who affected who. Will take more time that way, however, I feel that I will have the proper and objective experiance that way. Make it a new project.

Although what's the point. Yeah, so I watch people ... sometimes. Often. It doesn't mean anything.

Note. The Experiment of Leaving Things Out was successful. People were more prone to pick up and look at the recordings that they didn't know. Pearl Jam over Celestina Warbeck. Next they chose Nirvana over Pearl Jam. That one, however, the variables have to be measured. Was it because Nirvana is more well known? After all Hogwarts is twenty % pure-blood, maybe a bit more counting full-bloods. The percentage raises when we count half-bloods raised by their magical parents, or in a magical environment ---->{Although it has been proven that when a magical parent marries a non-magical parent, they are more likely to live in muggle world. Percentage not high]

[/Private]

And I cut it, or else it'd be longer. He's a nerd. He can go on about percentages, more than I have the capability to describe lol
